The India-spec 2024 Mercedes E-Class Long Wheelbase (V214) is special for more reasons than one. Of course, it’s among the crème de la crème of sedans this side of the INR 1 Crore mark, but there’s more – India is the only market to get the LWB version in RHD configuration. This isn’t a mere coincidence – it’s a representation of how well the brand understands its customers. Moreover, with the advent of the latest generation, the gap between the E-Class and the S-Class has narrowed significantly. The new E is larger, posher and more tech-laden than ever, which makes it a great luxe-barge for those who aren’t ready to splurge on the utterly luxurious S-Class.

Visually, the new E-Class leans towards a regal aesthetic. The star-studded grille and the angular headlights give the front a futuristic edge, which is reminiscent of the carmaker’s EV lineup. From the side, the sweeping shoulder line and cleverly integrated quarter glass on the C-pillar enhance elegance. The taut sheet-metal, stretched wheelbase and the low ride height lead to a decidedly regal look. Meanwhile, the Maybach-inspired doors are shorter and aid privacy for rear occupants. At the rear, the sloping roofline flows seamlessly into the rounded back, while the three-pointed star motif of the two-parts tail-lights add visual drama. The design is refined yet eye-catching, ensuring no one mistakes it for anything else on the road.
The latest E-Class LWB (V214) takes comfort and presence to new heights. With an extended wheelbase of 3,094mm—15mm more than the predecessor and a whopping 133mm over the standard-wheelbase version—this sedan is all about maximising rear space. The wheelbase-to-length ratio of over 60% ensures rear passengers enjoy reclining seats and a lounge-like experience. This 2024 E-Class is a masterstroke in combining more space and elevating the aesthetic appeal, thereby brining it all the closer to the mighty S-Class.

Cutting-edge Tech meets First-Class Comfort
Step inside the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and you’re greeted with a new-age interior that feels straight out of Mercedes’ flagship EQS lineup. The dashboard is dominated by a trio of high-definition screens—a 14.4-inch central infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, and another 12.3-inch screen exclusively for the front passenger. A 17-speaker Burmester audio system ensures an immersive listening experience, while a voice-controlled split panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with natural light.
But it’s at the rear where real magic lies. The seats now recline between 26 and 36 degrees and offer an additional 40mm of thigh support for extra comfort. Powered sun blinds for the windows enhance privacy, though the rear quarter glass get only manually-adjustable blinds. While the rear tablet from the previous generation is no longer available, the spaciousness more than compensates. Even tall occupants—up to six feet—will find ample headroom and knee room, making long drives a relaxing affair. Mercedes has gone the extra mile with sound insulation to completely isolate the occupants from the outside world. Wind and road noise are almost non-existent, heightening the sense of serenity.
On the handling front, the new E feels lighter on its feet compared to its predecessor. The steering is light and responsive at low speeds, thereby aiding manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, the steering gains heft, offering a reassuring connection to the road. The car feels sufficiently agile through corners, though it’s clear this sedan prefers composed cruising over aggressive cornering. And the straight-line stability is exemplary—completely befitting a luxury flagship.
