Maruti WagonR is one of the most successful vehicles in the country ever
In the last 25 years, a whopping 32 lakh (3.2 million) Maruti WagonR cars have been sold in India. This makes it India’s favourite family car to date. That is a huge testament to its popularity and demand since India is the 3rd largest car maker in the world. There are all sorts of vehicles from numerous carmakers on sale here. Hence, the WagonR still being so popular is no mean feat. Maruti Suzuki says that it is the favourite among first-time buyers, as well as repeat customers alike.
32 Lakh Maruti WagonR Cars Sold in 25 Years
December 18, 2024 marks 25 years of Maruti WagonR in India. It was first launched on December 18, 1999. What impresses me the most is the fact that its demand is still at an all-time high. As a matter of fact, it has been India’s highest-selling car for the last three consecutive financial years – FY22, 23 and 24. The largest car marque in the country has kept the WagonR updated with regular facelifts and new-generation models. As a result, it was able to fend off competition convincingly. In recent years, there have been multiple powertrain options along with CNG and manual and automatic transmissions to cater to a wide range of customers.

My View
I must admit that the charm of the Maruti WagonR has barely diminished in its 25 years of existence. On the contrary, regardless of how many new cars are coming up in the market, people still get attracted to the WagonR for various reasons. The class-leading mileage figures, low maintenance costs, widespread Maruti Suzuki network, multiple powertrain options, availability of the latest tech and convenience amenities are some of the top reasons for its mad success and popularity in India. Let us see how well it does on the sales charts in times to come.
