New Honda Amaze Budget Sedan Shows Its Fancy LEDs Ahead Of December 4 Debut

  • Honda will introduce the third generation of the Amaze on December 4.
  • The small sedan previews its exterior and interior design in official teasers.
  • It features sleeker styling and more tech compared to its predecessor.

Update 12/3: Honda shared more teasers of the new Amaze, this time showing pieces of the actual car rather than sketches.

Honda shared a revealing video teaser of the new Amaze one day before its debut, giving us a pretty good idea of what to expect. The third generation of the budget-friendly sedan is expected to be a heavily redesigned version of its predecessor, with more upmarket styling and a touch of added sophistication.

Small sedans might be a dying species in North America and Europe, but in India, they’re still thriving. Shortly after the debut of the rival Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze is primed to return with sharper styling and more equipment.

Sketches always show the ideal version of a vehicle, which is why Honda used them for the first teasers. Predictably, the actual car looks less inspiring without the stretched proportions and the exaggerated features of the original illustrations. Still, it is evident that the new model will look more appealing compared to its predecessor.

The front end is characterized by a large hexagon grille and elongated LED headlights, inspired by larger Honda models. These are joined by sportier bumper intakes, and sharper surfacing on the hood. The tail is also inspired by the Honda City stablemate, with aggressive taillights featuring smoked clusters.

The interior looks like a miniature version of the Civic, with horizontal A/C vents and a free-standing infotainment display. The latter is likely a 10.25-inch touchscreen sourced from the Honda Elevate SUV, as with the climate controls and the steering wheel.

We expect Honda to upgrade the safety credentials of its smallest sedan, adding plenty of standard airbags and a few ADAS.

Despite the important styling updates, the new Amaze is expected to ride on the same underpinnings. The current generation debuted in 2018, based on a platform derived from the larger City, which is also shared with the Elevate.

Powertrain options will likely comprise a carry-over 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 89 hp (66 kW / 90 PS), mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. There are also reports about a CNG version, which is already an option in rival offerings.

The Honda Amaze will rival the all-new Suzuki Dzire, the Hyundai Aura, and the Tata Tigor, all of which are based on urban hatchbacks.
