The upcoming electric SUV will be the first dedicated EV from the Japanese car marque which will even spawn a Toyota counterpart
Maruti e Vitara will mark the beginning for the Japanese carmaker in the EV space of the future. Suzuki has visibly lagged behind in the EV race as most legacy carmakers already offer some electrified model in their lineups across international markets. Despite a recent slowdown in the EV demand in the U.S., China and Europe, the overall trajectory includes electric cars for the foreseeable future. Hence, Suzuki will commence with its first electric SUV, the e Vitara. Let us delve into the details of this car.
Maruti e Vitara Spied in India
The specifics of this case stem from autofit.tv on Instagram. The visuals capture the heavily camouflaged electric SUV plying on the Indian road. In fact, it is being driven around in heavy traffic. Still, we are able to deduce from the silhouette that this is the upcoming Suzuki EV. We are able to see a shark fin antenna at the rear along with a roof-mounted spoiler with a crease which might be the LED light bar at the rear. There is also a brief glimpse of the side profile with black side pillars, prominent alloy wheels and pronounced wheel arches. With time, we will get to know more details.
The Maruti e Vitara will be based on the new HEARTECT-e platform with two battery pack options – a 49 kWh or a 61 kWh. In fact, there will be options of choosing between 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. The power and torque outputs range from 142 hp / 189 Nm to 172 hp / 189 Nm and 181 hp / 300 Nm (AWD). Note that the 4WD iteration will utilize Suzuki’s trademark ALLGRIP-e technology by distributing torque where it is needed the most. We know that the EV will have a ground clearance of 180 mm and weigh between 1,702 kg and 1,899 kg. Buyers can choose between 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels. With time, more details about the range and charging will surface.
My View
The EV space is rapidly expanding in India at the moment. In fact, in the last couple of years, we have been able to see tons of new EV models from major carmakers. Tata Motors, MG and Mahindra are the top players in this space currently. We also have premium EVs from Hyundai and Kia. However, in the mass market, Suzuki will aim to pull the customers from the aforementioned companies with the e Vitara. Let us keep an eye out for more details.
