The upcoming EV has been teased by the Chinese-owned British carmaker on social media for a long time now.
The MG Windsor EV will be the next electric crossover/SUV in our market and the latest teaser displays its aerodynamic design. We know how important it is in EVs. It directly impacts the range of an electric car. The lesser the drag coefficient of a car, the better its efficiency. Higher efficiency has a direct correlation with how much range an EV will offer. MG already sells ZS EV and Comet EV in India. With the Windsor EV, it wants to expand its portfolio even more. Let us take a look at the details of the new EV.
MG Windsor EV Teases Aerodynamic Design
The latest teaser from the official MG Motor India channel on YouTube reveals new details. The carmaker is continuing with its approach of using aeroplanes as inspiration for this EV. We have already seen in the last teasers that the Windsor EV will have 135° reclining rear seats and a colossal 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display. This time around, MG is showcasing its performance traits with an aerodynamically sound body. With EVs, the lesser the amount of friction of the body against the wind, the higher the range. While the principle is the same with ICE cars too, the range is not such a huge issue there.
That is why car companies have been focusing so much on designing slippery surfaces for EVs in the last few years. In fact, for performance EVs, aerodynamics is the core theme around which a car is developed. MG thinking about it in a relatively mass market EV is quite impressive. The teaser also showcased 18-inch alloy wheels which are designed to maximise the air flow. Hence, we can expect the Windsor EV to have healthy efficiency and range figures. The details will arrive at the launch in the coming days.
Our View
EVs are looking like the only solution to tackle vehicular emissions to meet the ambitious carbon-neutrality goals for the coming decades. That is why the EV revolution is strong in most parts of the world. In fact, in top automobile markets like the U.S., China and Europe, we are even beginning to see a slowdown in the demand. However, for countries like India, things are only starting out. Hence, we have a long way to go before EVs start to become less desirable. I shall keep an eye out for more details in that regard.
