Sheriff’s Deputy Flips Over Ohio Trooper And K9 Partner During Chase

  • An Ohio trooper’s SUV rolled over during a high-speed chase after a deputy hit him.
  • The trooper and his K9 partner were taken to the hospital but later cleared.
  • Although the suspect initially escaped, law enforcement has positively identified him.

Law enforcement officers are trained to expect dangerous situations. What they don’t anticipate is facing potentially serious injuries caused by their fellow officers. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what one Ohio State Trooper experienced when a Sheriff’s deputy collided with his SUV, causing it to roll over—with the trooper’s K9 inside.

The incident occurred on September 12 in Portage County after police officers spotted a stolen Volkswagen SUV. They gave chase but the suspect wouldn’t stop. Then, as officers followed the vehicle, it began to exit the highway before doubling back over the grass.

As the lead highway patrolman, driving a Chevrolet SUV, followed the suspect off-road, a Sheriff’s deputy attempted to do the same but misjudged the maneuver. The deputy’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of the patrolman’s SUV, causing it to roll over. The SUV eventually came to rest on its wheels but not before sustaining significant damage, including broken windows and deployed airbags.

The video of the crash doesn’t disclose the names of the trooper or the deputy involved, but it does confirm that both officers were taken to the hospital and later cleared. Initially, there was no information available about the condition of the K9 or the suspect, so we reached out to local authorities for clarification.

Sergeant Bridget Matt of the Ohio State Highway Patrol informed Carscoops: “K-9 Titus is doing well. He was taken to a local veterinary hospital as a precaution but was found to be uninjured. Our trooper is also doing well. He sought medical treatment at a local area hospital for minor injuries and was released later that evening.”

“While the suspect was not apprehended that day, he was positively identified as Bryant Williamson, 41, Canton and applicable charges of Failure to Comply and Receiving Stolen Property were filed through Akron Municipal Court,” he added.

Certainly, this chase didn’t turn out as the officers would have wanted, but it’s good to know that everyone survived without serious injury.
